| Question: : I will be getting an 8 week old male and female the second week of Jan. They are from the same litter. Should I use one crate or two? : Thanks in advance.
Please get two crates...and two of everything else! Your pups may be litter mates but they are also individuals and you need to treat them as such. Separating them when they are crated need not be traumatic. You can put the crates next to each other so they can see/hear/smell each other; I recommend the wire-type crate for this particular situation. I also recommend that you get the same type of fleece toy for each pup and switch the toys between the crates so they can physically touch something each other has slept with. (We found that our littermates were particularly fond of the "chew man" but not sure why -- perhaps because the size was similar to theirs?!) Thank you for choosing to crate train your pups. I hope you'll take advantage of our FAQs and search engine in preparation for their arrival as well as after they are home. Best wishes, |
