: My JRT is 10 mo. old and she started her first heat at about 8 mo. She is still bleeding(spotting) and her genital areas are still swelled. I don't know if she should still be in heat or if there is a problem and we need to visit the vet.

Dear Meagan,

It is unlikely that your female is "still" in heat after the onset of her symptoms two months ago; I suggest that you either misintrepreted the signs or miscalculated the timing. Whatever the reason, you need to take your terrier to the vet as soon as possible.

Should the vet find your terrier healthy, I highly recommend that you consider spaying your terrier so she is unable to reproduce. I assure you that there are more then enough JRTs on the planet then there are good homes for them...
