Question:

: We are going to crate train our new puppy, but we also have a doggie door. We would like the puppy to learn to use the door at will when she is not crated. Is this something she will "pick up" from our older dogs? The puppy is 10 weeks old. Is that too young to expect her to use the doggie door?
: Thanks for your help! This is a great forum!
: Sincerely,

Hi Jill,

At this age (10 weeks) yes, she would be way too young to grasp the idea of a doggy door. At this age she will still need to be housebroken the old-fashioned way of a feeding/potty schedule with you leashing her and taking her out. Once she is good in her toilet habits then the doggy door should be okay, but chances are you will have to teach her to use that too although having the other dogs will be a big help.

Happy Holidays!
