Dear Hannah,

A puppy will affect your old girl in one of two ways: it will either annoy her (to the point where she will either attack or retreat from any contact) OR it will re-energize her.

Jack Russells and Schnauzers have different temperaments, exercise requirements, etc; you obviously know about the breed's "dislike" of cats. For those reasons, I do not feel that a JRT is a good choice for your household.

I hope you'll consider adopting an adult MS; I imagine there are plenty who would benefit from your experience with the breed. :-)
