Skin Problem

Miles, my 5 year old male short haired terror, has developed a nasty skin problem on his ears. It started as a small open would, which healed with a white crust. The wounds healed, but left bald spots which have gotten bigger. The hair falls out in small clumps and the area looks leathery. Help!
