Question:

: My two-year old JRT lived for the first year in my previous apartment, and he was perfectly housetrained. For the past year we have lived in a larger apartment that has an enormous roof deck covered with astroturf. He has used the astroturf for his elimination needs over this time, in addition to going when we are out for a walk. When no one is home the door to the deck is closed, and for the first 11 months in this apartment he did not go in the house. However, over the past month he has completely forgotten his trainnig, and is pooping (and sometimes peeing ) at will in the house during the day and late night when the door to the deck is shut. Is there anything I can do short of crate training him again?

Response:

Hi Gregg,

Any dog that has been rock-solid in housebreaking that suddenly starts having problems should be taken to the vet.

You must rule out any physical reason there might be for this regression before tackling anything else.

So have your boy checked out first and if he gets a clean bill of health, post again.

Regards,
Marie
