Question:

: Miles, my 5 year old male short haired terror, has developed a nasty skin problem on his ears. It started as a small open would, which healed with a white crust. The wounds healed, but left bald spots which have gotten bigger. The hair falls out in small clumps and the area looks leathery. Help!

Hi David,

One of my terriers developed something very similar to yours. It was some really weird little disorder my vet had to end up going through some medical books to find out what it was.

Now I wish I could tell you what it was but I can't remember what he called it lol!

Anyway he prescribed Tresaderm Solution that I had to rub into the affected parts of my dog's ears twice a day. He also recommended rubbing liquid vitamin E also on the affected parts to keep scar tissue from forming.

Well to make a long story short, the ears healed up nicely and with the help of the vitamin E, all the hair grew back.

You might want to discuss this treatment with your vet.

Good Luck!
Marie
