Male Dog - Neurological Concern

Question:

About four days ago my 2 year old male started to act very strange. While there are many observations I have noticed in this time that are different, I will state the most repetitive and obvious to keep this short
He is a jumper and a brilliant runner that would make any gazelle envious, but w/in these past few days he seemingly has lost his balance, ability to maintain focus, desire to leap, and is generally confused. I am very concerned because this is completely opposite from normal. When he runs, he almost drags his rear legs in a roached form - before he always had perfect lines and strides. He also constantly turns in circles, sometime tight and sometimes sweeping out to 15' - always to the right. If I am standing next to a wall, he will turn right in smack into the wall. At night I cage him and this is usually ok, but since this began he can not tolerate the cage, and moves about restlessly and constantly cries. He is usually dominant in the house, but has become completely submissive and withdrawn. I know he feels something is wrong, and it pains me to watch him try to deal with this. I am planning on taking him to our vet in the next day, but I just wanted to put this out in this forum to see if anybody has input. He does like to eat other feces if he gets a chance, although I usually manage to stop him when he does so; I'm also wondering if he possibly injested something poisonous - what would the treatment be for something like this. But he has not vomitted or had diareah (sp?). He has been eating meals normally; I just don't know how to peg this. So any helpful info. would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
