Question:

: In regards to the earlier post - concerning the dog that ate pork...Is there a list that I might find as to what a dog should ABSOLUTELY NOT eat? I know things like chocolate, raisins and grapes are poisonous, but what else??? And, we have been giving our dog pig ears --- which are sold as dog treats...???? THANKS!

Response:

Hi Richard,

If you want to give "ears" to your dog, I suggest getting the lambs' ears rather than the pig ears. Pig ears are usually quite large and while it might be okay for a snack for a larger breed dog, it's a lot of snack for a small breed. It's always better to err on the side of caution, I say.

Well here are some other things (besides the usual poisonous plants list) that you shouldn't feed your dog: alcoholic beverages, bones from fish, poultry, pork (especially cooked bones that can splinter), cat food (too high in protein), fat trimmings, hops, human vitamin supplements, large amounts of liver, macadamia nuts, milk, onions and garlic (raw or cooked, in large amounts can damage red blood cells and cause anemia), fruit pits, raw eggs, raw fish, salt, yeast dough.

These are some of the things you are better off not feeding to your dog.

Regards,
Marie
