| Question:
: I recently rescued a female jrt. She is 9 months old.And apparently she was abused. I am trying to obediance train her. Even though I am gentle she sometimes she slinks and cowers. And she constantly wants to be near me or laying on me. Will she ever get over the cowering and sliking around?
Thank you for rescuing this little girl! Seeing that you recently got her, it may take some time for her to trust someone again. So only use positive methods for obedience training. Keep things upbeat for her and fun, there's ways to correct bad behavior that is less negative, at this stage she doesn't need to be more traumatized. As time goes on she will realize that she has nothing to be afraid of anymore. Nothing is more rewarding than taking in a dog that didn't get the proper care and love and watch them turn from a scared, unsure animal into a happy, healthy and loving companion that will shower you with love all the days of their life.
