Question:

: WE haave a 6 month old JRT and recently he has begun urinating on our bed. He has not gone in the house for a few months now, but has started to go on the bed instead. He has done it a few times because of excitmnet but today he went and did it and no one was even in the room with him. I am wondering how to curtail this other than not allowing him on our bed?

Response:

Dear Mandee,

I have a couple of suggestions that may curtail your terrier's recent potty habits while still allowing him on your bed.

(1) Do not allow your terrier to play on the bed or anywhere in your bedroom. This will teach him that this "place" is where he goes to sleep at night.

(2) During the day, keep the door to your bedroom closed. I also suggest that you confine him in his crate/room when you cannot keep an eye on him.

I think this latest behavior demonstrates that your little guy is not yet housebroken so it's very important that you get back on track with his "basic" training too. :-)

Good luck,
Leslie
