Destructive Play Behavior

A little over six months ago, we got a female JRT, Rolo, from a rescue group. She was not an abused dog, but she was neglected and left alone most of the time. Whenever we give her a chew bone or toy, she "buries" it in clothing, blankets, etc. and then "dives" in to dig around and retrieve it. I think this is one of the games she has made up for herself. My question is this: Is there any way to change this play behavior? This behavior has torn clothes, blankets, and now our expensive leather couch. We were with her in the house, although in another room. We adore her, but can't afford much more of this! Help!
