Question:

: Hi, there...a local reputable breeder (references checked) is trying to find a good home for two female Boston Terriers sisters that he can't get pregnant. They just turned three. When I met the dogs tonight, I was surprised by how shy they seemed, even though they licked my fingers and interacted well but calmly with each other (one was a little spunkier than the other). Is this calmness/shyness a trait of the Boston Terrier -- or just the situation? I have researched the breed and love the temperament but was surprised by how shy they were -- could it be that they have been in a kennel environment and this was just their way of warming up to me? Also, they are paper but not housetrained. What would I be in for in terms of success if I took one, or both of them, re: housetraining. They are bright dogs but housetraining a three-year-old (or two)...is it the same or double hard as a puppy? Sorry for the long post just need some advice. They were so sweet!!

Response:

Hi Marie - I don't think Boston Terriers share many characteristics with Jack Russells - but I may be wrong; perhaps some other volunteers here know more about them than I do. I'd try to find a group of Boston owners to chat with. Maybe there's a local club you get in touch with. Good luck, C.P.
