Question:

: I require some assistance regarding my JRT Jacob. He have aggression problem. I really do not now what to do with him. Squirting water on him works when he have slight aggression. but when the major ones come, he will show even more aggression when he is hiding underneath the bed. He seems to have territorial aggression and sometimes even when not in his territory he will have as well. Even when being carried by pple. He has aggression also when I am sleeping and someone try to wake me up or go near me. He used to sleep with me on the bed but after realising the prob, I forbid him to go on beds and sofa to let him noe who is the boss, but the prob still carries on. Sometimes it goes so bad that he bites pple or my other dogs and I have to scream at him to stop it. Can someone help me? How do we actually choke him?? With a choke chain? The thing is I do not noe when he will have aggression and we can only choke him when we leash him. However when he see the leash, he is very happy and no aggression can be seen. When he shows aggression, he is always hiding and if we reach our hands to pull his choke chain most prob he will bite us. Hope can give me some advice.

Response:

Dear Joel, Choking, screaming and squirting isn't going to fix this problem. Jacob is being a little tyrant! You didn't say how old he is, or whether he is neutered or not. If he isn't, get him to the Vet, promptly. YOu need professional training to get him straightened out, so that he respects and continues to respect the commands and leadership you give him. Find an obedience training class, and check out the instructor by watching at least one session, before you sign up. Also, make sure that they are able and willing to work with a Jack Russell. Please carry through on this, before Jacob really harms someone. Hope you can get busy on the training right away! C.P.
