Question:

: We have a lovely 9wk old female named Buffy. She has been so good to go outside and do her business. The problem is even after she goes she will come inside sniff around and let a few drops of pee go on the rug in different spots. Why would she do that, is she marking her territory?

Response:

Dear Richard,

Congratulations on your new puppy and welcome to the wonderful world of house breaking! :-)

I suggest you first take Buffy (great name!) to the vet to rule out a possible urinary tract infection. If she gets a clean bill of health, then you may have a "multi-pee-er" -- that is, a dog who doesn't empty it's bladder all at once. (This is not the same as marking.) Consider as well that puppies have VERY short attention spans so even if she stops squatting, she may be doing so because she saw yet ANOTHER blade of grass. :-)

As we've mentioned on this Forum before, it is very important that any "oops" in the house be thoroughly cleaned with a product that eliminates the odor, not just the stain. An enzymatic cleaner (I use Nature's Miracle) is best suited for this; please be sure to follow the instructions on the label for the best results.

Good luck and enjoy your new puppy!

Leslie
