Question:

: We have a 12 week old, male JRT. He talks back (barks) EVERYTIME he is told "no". We are currently enrolled in Puppy Kindergarten and he is doing very well with the training, but he still doesn't want to listen when he is told not to do something. He will look you right in the eye, bark, and kind of lunge toward you as if to say "Don't tell ME what to do". Any suggestions on how to stop this?

Response:

Dear Sheila,

"NO!" means nothing to a pup unless it followed by a verb...no bark, no bite, etc. Please pay careful attention to the lessons you are being taught in the Puppy Kindergarten classes and be sure to apply them at home. Ultimately, your pup's behavior outside of class depends upon YOUR ability to use what you have learned to teach him what is appropriate.

Good luck,
Leslie
