: I just lost my Rat Terrier after 11 years. My husband bought me a Jack Russell from a breeder down the road. He is 6 months old. He want do anything but look at me. Well he is starting to losen up, but I have had him for 4 days and he is stil not coming to me. I called the breeder and he said that he was confined to a pen for six months with no attention but he will losen up. I am worried that he want. Will he ever be normal, and SCARED ALL THE TIME?

Response:

Well for any dog it will normally take a few weeks for them to settle into a new home. For a dog with the lack of socialization as from the sounds of this guy it may take a while for him to settle in. You may try working with treats to get him to come to you and praise him when he responds in a good way to you. After he gets more comfortable with you all I would suggest you begin to work with outside the home as well.
