Question:

: I have a 6 month old female JRT who lives with 2 other dogs...Potty and create training were going well until recently, three seperate times this week she was let in after going the bathroom and "I think" purposfully peeed on our bed, the other dog's bed, and once on the carpet. Is this a continuation of potty training,or a territorial thing, or maybe a medical thing?

Response:

Stacey, I don't think dogs of any kind have the mental capacity to use urination for some other purpose, like irritating the owner, or "getting back" at the owner. Their behavior is a result of either instinct or training. Stop giving her free run of the house; confine her to a smaller space, like the kitchen, where you can obverve her and continue potty training. Many 6-month-old's are not reliabe in their elimination habits. Keep at it, but try to make it very tough for her to make a mistake. Good luck. C.P.
