| Question: : I had great success with teaching my JRT to ring a bell when he wants to go outside. We started this when he was about 4 months old (he just turned one year). I bought 1" jingle bells at the local craft store and hung them on my doors at doggy level with VERY strong string. Everytime I took my puppy for a walk, I would lift his paw and ring the bells. It didn't take long for him to figure out what to do alone. Of course, at first he did it all the time...it became sort of a slam dancing game in addition to letting me know he needed to go out... but now he does it for the right reasons. The first time he rang the bells when I had houseguests was one of the proudest moments of my puppy training life! Good luck, Sandra!
