Question:

: we have a 5 yr old male jrt who urinates on the new furniture and the side of the bed almost once a day to every other day, we do not want to give him up but he is forcing action. if there is nothing we can do at home do you recommend a trainer in sacramento area to break him of this problem, we do not want him to show our 1 yr old female jrt bad habits.

Response:

Craig, a male dog who marks his territory continually is tough to deal with. First, is he neutered? If not, get that done if he is not a breeding candidate. Next, put a "diaper" or absorbent pad on him while he's in the house. How bout restricting his access to parts of the house where he likes to mark? The smell of previous spots will keep him coming back to do it again and again. There are enzyme cleaners that remove the scent from stained places. Your Vet's office may help you locate a trainer; good luck - C.P.
