| Question: : Hello again... we are planning on taking our two JRT's camping with us this coming long weekend. We live in Ontario and while there have not been any WNV reported cases directly in the area we will be camping, there are some in Ontario and within and hour's drive form the campground. I called my vet and there isn't a spray or vaccine that we can get. I was thinking of getting a mosq. net for over their pen , but they will still be out walking with us in the daytime. Any tips...ideas or suggestions for me ? I want to protect them at all costs, even if it means they may miss this camping trip. : Thanks again for all your help! Awesome site!!
I am thinking that it's pretty early to have mosquitoes flying about up there in Ontario if this trip is within the next month. But you might want to ask your vet about a new topical called K9 Advantix that works like Frontline and will protect the "kids" from fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. I don't think there is any vaccine to protect against West Nile, believe me if there was, my two would have gotten it! At any rate you might want to consider a Lymes disease vaccine for your terriers if this disease is a problem where you live. Mine get a yearly booster as we live in a "hot zone." Happy camping, my two LOVE to camp! |
