| Question: : Lucy Girl came home from her surgery last Saturday. I am a proud owner of a $450.00 White and Yellow Marble. The first couple of days, she was very sluggish. She is starting to get her groove back, but she has some "wierd" spells. She runs under my bed and wont come out! Or...she stands behind the drapes and will only peek her head out when I say "Treat?" Is this normal "post surgery" behavior? One minute, I am carrying her up the steps, and the next minute she is running like a bat out of you know what across the yard after the neighbor's cat. My husband says "she is "milking" it.....I of course refuse to admit I have a spoiled "Lucy Girl".....hehe Any advice would be great! Thanks
A dash across the yard after having major surgery is bound to cause some discomfort for your little one so it makes sense that she would "behave" uncomfortably as well...understand? :-) I know it's tough to keep a terrier calm after surgery and I know how much you want Lucy to "act" like herself again. But you've got to really bite the bullet and give her time to heal completely. That means leash exercise only while continuing to minimize jumping up, running up/down the stairs, etc. Though it's been quite a while, I still remember what it was like to take care of our terriers after they were spayed...at the same time! I'm pretty sure those two weeks are responsible for most of the grey in my hair...LOL! :-) Hang in there, Mommy! |
