Another question concerning getting a second jrt

I have seen some variations on my question, but wondered if anyone who has had problems could help me. I have a 3yr jrt/fox terrier mix female. My 12 yr. male cocker passed away a month ago. I want to eventually get her another playmate, but I am a little hesitant. I friend stayed with me for a while with his female boxer. My dog was ok with everything, until the boxer would touch her toys or look at her food bowl. This cause her to show no fear to protect her stuff. Should I anticipate that she would be the same way even with a male jrt puppy? I know she is lonely for another playmate, but I don't want to have her terrorising a baby. Thanks for any advice.
