Question:

: Hi,
: I am 14 years old and about 4 months ago I adopted a puppy JRT who is now 6 months old. My parents have made the decision that we should put Toby(my JRT) up for adoption. My dad works and would not be able to take care of Toby and my mom is going to start a job this summer. This summer I know I will be able to take care of him if we do keep him but my question is about when I start highschool. If we do keep him I would be taking care of him for about 1 hour each morning. my mom and dad will be gone until 5 pm Monday-Friday. I would get home at around 4:30 and play with him for 2 hours each night. Toby would be left outside with a dog house, plenty of water, toys, and food. Is that to long for him to be left alone for. I also would like to know when a JRT should be trained not to chew on things anymore. I am trying my hardest to spend time with him. Thanks for all of your help.

: Margaret

Dear Margaret,

I'm sorry -- if your parents have made the decision to find Toby another home then you need to accept it. You obviously have not been taking care of him so there is no reason for your mom and dad to expect that you'll change your behavior...especially since you are starting high school soon.
