Question:

Hi Lisa,

I would probably take your dog to another vet for another opinion. If this is indeed ringworm, it can be transmitted from humans to dogs back to humans or vice versa. Children are more susceptible than adults though.

Ringworm occurs in circular patterns usually ½ - 2 inches in diameter and there is scaling with a red ring around the patch. And ringworm is actually a fungus.

And ringworm should be relatively easy to clear up, in fact in many cases over-the-counter solutions can be used. Only if a dog has a large outbreak or the fungus persistently hangs on your vet can prescribe a drug for this.
