Question:

: My 7 mth old, Griffey, has been vomiting on a fairly regular basis since about 5 mths. It is mostly in the morning and always just bile. At first I thought maybe he was over hungry, because he does seem fine right after and he sometimes will want food. We switched his food at 6 mths on Vet recomendation and he seems to eat a little better, but he is still vomiting at least once a week. Recently he did need a vet visit for eating something (we think part of a tennis ball) which caused him to be blocked up and needing an enema. Anyway he is on antibotics for that since last week and was doing good until last night he woke me up again to be sick. Should I be worried that there is something else wrong again? Thanks.

Response:

Dear Michelle,

Dogs have a pretty well-developed "barf" instinct. They will vomit if they're nervous, their stomach is empty, the sun is shining...you get the idea. However, that doesn't necessarily explain why a young pup vomits "fairly" regularly for two months...

I recommend that you have some tests run on Griffey -- specifically a fecal exam to check for parasites and a full blood work-up to make sure his internal organs are working properly.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Regards,
Leslie
