Question:

Hello, as a regular reader of your forum, I have again a question about Fritzie. She's about 6 or 7, found her last year. 3 weeks ago she had a scratch on her cornea, it was bad, had to be operated on and inner eyelid was stitched closed. This Monday, after 3 Weeks, I noticed a stitch losened and took her back to our vet, he took the stitches out but said he does not like the look of the eye - there is a pink bump still there. He said it may be scar tissue but he things a specialist should look at it. We called the specialist and the receptionist has no appointment till next Monday (almost 1 week) and they will charge at least $200 for a consultation and would not accept a check. My Vet should fax them a recommendation. No questions asked what's the matter with Fritzie? My husband (and I) were very put off, called our vet back, he promised to get back to us with another Doctors name, has not done so yet. After calling a number of vets in the area, it all came back to that one specialist! (Dr. Sapienza). We never got to talk to him only his receptionist! Is there a directory of eye specialists for this area (Long Island, NY)? Our vet said Fritzie is otherwise in good health, her eye is now open (but still dry crust which I wash away as told) and she jumps around, her big plastic collar still on her. I hope my vet is not just covering his bases in case we think the operation was not a success I worry about Fritzie first. Thanks for your input!
