Question:

: My 5 month old JRT Yoshi doesnt seem to have an appetite. Some days she will not eat until 2-3 o'clock, then only a tiny bit of food. The vet said try adding some canned food to the dry, but it made her sick. I have moistened it with water as well and no luck. She is going to the bathroom pretty regularly however it is a bit 'slimy' and lighter in color than before. She acts perfectly healty, playing as always and happy, no signs of illness, just not much of an appetite. Her ribs are very visible also, but again she acts perfectly healthy. The vet did not seem overly concerned about this saying just leave food out for her and she will eat when she wants, but this makes it very difficult to get her on a potty schedule. This is not new, she has been a light eater since we got her at 10 weeks. Any suggestions? She is also a very nervous little girl at times, very shaky and wants to be cuddled. Help! Im worried about my baby.

Dear Melissa,

I suggest you get a second opinion from another vet -- a 5 month old pup whose ribs are showing is definitely not getting the nutrition she needs to fuel her growing body. Just because she's always been a light eater doesn't mean that there isn't a reason for it...

Good luck,
Leslie
