Question:

: I have a 9 moth old male JRT (Ziggy)and I have just recently seen my vet. in regards to a problem Ziggy has been having with his front left leg, limping after exercising when waking from a nap. The vet. took x-rays of both front legs and has informed me that small dog breesd such as the JRT's may often need corrective surgery which the bones in the legs need to be surgicaly cut to allow proper growth. I reviewed the x-rays with the vet. and have seen a curve in what the vet. called the top bone or front bone. It appears that the top bone is outgrowing the back bone and is causing Ziggy's feet to turn outward and his apparant discomfort. The vet. has suggested a procedure in which they will cut the back bone in the front legs allowing them to catch up with the top or front bone. The cost is going to to be what I find quite expensive @ $2,000.00 for the procedure. The vet. has informed me that if not corrected while Ziggy is still growing this curving of the top bone will only cause more extensive problems and possible lameness in the future. Any advice would be helpful. I am awaiting the x-rays to be reviewed for a second opinion. Thank you.

I dont have any advice for you but wanted to wish you luck with him. You may also seek a Vet School in your area for the surgery.
