Question:

: We recently adopted a 6-year old female Jack Russell from the Humane Society. After the first week with our other 5-year old female Jack and a 12-year old mixed, both very sociable dogs with people and other dogs, the new Jack is beginning to 'get' along with the other dogs.
: She has taken to 'hiding' under the beds when she believes we're leaving for work. She growls and snaps if you try to reach under the bed for her.
: When we correct 'bad' behavior or try to take a rawhide chew, she growls at us. We tried a rolled newspaper to correct, and she attacked us, biting (minor) one of us in the hand.
: She may have been abused, or punished inappropriately before.
: What can we do to gain more control over this new Jack? What method of correction should we take with this dog? She's very affectionate otherwise.

This type of thing can't be corrected on a Message board you need to work with a trainer, call your Vet about finding a trainer/behaviorist or go to the link below.
