: I recently had my pure breed JRT neutered in hope that it would fix the problem of him jumping the fences at home and getting out onto the street. But it hasn't, he's 7 years old and until recently had never jumped the fence now we have had start putting fence extentions up which are extremly costly where we knew he was getting out, now to amazement find that he is quite good at jumping 5'5" fences without any fuss. Can anyone suggest ways of stopping him we feel like we're in a prison with the now high wooden fencing all around the house. We even thought about getting another dog to keep him company, would this work?

: thanks

Hi Lisa,
I do not think getting another dog would be a good idea. What if your guy demonstrates for the other dog his new skills and you've got two dogs in the street? I would not add another animal to this situation until you get it 125% resolved.
First, it sounds as if your guy needs to be better supervised in the yard. That will likely help. More interaction with humans and more exercise won't hurt either; if he's busy playing with you, he won't have time to escape.
Visit your local farm supply store, and ask them about hot wiring your fence. The workers there will be able to help you get the right controller and insulators for your type of fencing.
Good luck!
