Question:

: I am considering purchasing a JRT. I am currently in the process of opening a sporting goods store carring hunting equipment. I was interested in a Jack Russel because of their intellegence. I planed to take the dog with me to work everyday. I have experiance training dogs. I have trained english setters to hunt quail. I was just wondering if, even with alot of training, will a jack russel be sutible to have around customers at my store?

Hi Jason,

If you start your dog out with this routine as a pup (after all of its shots) and get it well socialized you shouldn't have too much of a problem. But make sure to get it spayed/neutered early as this will help to lessen any aggressive and possible territorial tendancies.

You must also make sure that the dog doesn't take off everytime the door is opened, these guys are pretty quick. So a definite course in obedience would be needed.

A well socialized dog should be good around lots of people, and a JRT is no exception.

Regards,
Marie
