Question:

: Is it possible to Toilet Train our JRT? We would like have him use only one Small area in our yard. He goes anywhere now in our yard. He is 3 years old. We knew people that once used small Chicken wire type Fence for their dogs. How can we go about training ours to use a small area instead of all over the yard ?
: Thank you

Response:

A dog's "nose-sense" is amazing! This is why we recommend that puppy owners take their little ones to the place in the yard where it previously eliminated to encourage a repeat performance. And also why we recommend VERY thorough cleanings for "mistakes" in the house.

The puppy training techniques may work in this situation. Take him to the designated area on-lead, encourage him to pee/poop and then praise him.

You will have to clean up the entire yard (it will take several weeks for the scent to disappear) and be very consistent about not letting him eliminate anywhere else but in his potty place. Please be very careful about stopping him from going outside "where" he's not supposed to; he may misunderstand and start eliminating in the house.

Good luck,
Leslie
