Question:

: When I have guest over my one year old JRT jumps and barks at them and won't leave them alone. Any suggestions?

Response:

Whitney,

Obedience class would be a good place to start. Dogs should naturally love and be excited by people, and one thing you don't want to do is get mad at them for it. You want to train them how to behave properly, and never punish them into it. I'm not saying that you are doing that, but since you've written so little about the situation, I wanted to be sure to cover all the bases. *smile*

If you can't get to an obedience class, you should at least pick up a good book on canine behavior and training. My favorite continues to be _How_To_Be_Your_Dog's_Best_Friend_ by the Monks of New Skete. They do a great job of explaining the dynamics behind your dog's behavior and how best to handle it without crushing their spirit.

Training Books

Good luck!
